Question by Hanna Marin: What is the best makeup for acne?
I want a really good light-weight foundation. I dont exactly have “acne”, but I have these little bumps all over my cheeks that are teeny tiny but you can definatly feel them if you touch my face. Im afraid they might turn into acne eventually so im trying to get rid of them. I wash my face everyday with Clean&Clear products and they are really helping me. but when I wear foundation, it kind of makes them come back out. I was looking into the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Compact Makeup, but the reviews are terrible. I want to find a good foundation (liquid or compact preferably) that will not make my “acne” appear.

I’ve always used Neutrogena Clean Makeup liquid foundation and a loose powder to set everything. At night to clear up acne (I had the same problem you do) I’d wash with Neutrogena Shine Control cleanser/mask and then dab a little on my zits and sleep with it. My face cleared up totally in about a month.

Question by I’m Born This Way: Am I the only 8th grader with acne?
I’m 13 and going into 8th grade, and I have acne. I know most people reading this are thinking “Please, middle schools don’t have acne. she probably just has 2 or 3 pimples” but I seriously do. Even my dermatologist says I have the skin of a 16 yr. old with acne even though I’m 13. Both of my parents had acne at my age, so Its kinda inevitable. It seriously takes a toll on my self image and confidence. Nobody else in my grade has acne, at the most 3 pimples. It aggravates me because I’m the only one who actually washes her face and puts on treatments and medicine, moisturizes regularly, exfoliates twice a week, etc. Everyone else doesn’t even wash their face, but their skin is perfectly matte and glows. To boost my confidence I wear foundation, concealer, and powder, but at the same time it makes me less confident since I worry if others will notice I’m wearing makeup. I didn’t use to be as self-concious about acne and wearing foundation, but last year someone said to my face “You wear too much foundation”, then pulled someone else over and said “doesn’t she wear too much foundation?” and they nodded and walked away. I must have cried for an hour when I got home. I couldn’t even defend myself, I just stood there helplessly. I do have friends, but they don’t mention my skin or anything, even though I fear they notice the foundation too. over the summer I started using high-end foundation and feel like it looks a little more natural, but It’s still noticeable. I just hate how I’m the only one mature who takes care of their skin, yet I’m still the only one who suffers. I turned down going on trips with my friends this summer because I was embarrassed for them to see me without makeup on, and I get embarrassed at slumber parties about washing my face so I just end up leaving my foundation on overnight and having to pay for it with the new 5 zits the next day. Am I seriously the only one going through this? please no harsh comments, this is really serious to me.

No you aren’t the only one. I had acne then also. Instead of using foundation try using a tinted concealer. There are a lot of makeup tutorials online that tell you how to put on concealer. Its a crappy problem I know but I still get pimples and im a sophmore in college. But if you are confident no one will even notice your acne. You notice your own way more than anyone else.

I have acne prone skin, clogged pores, dry skin, and sensitive skin. I am going to try to use extra virgin olive oil as a facial moisturizer to clear up my skin. I am going to give it 7 days. If my skin breaks out from the oil, I will discontinue the use of the oil. If my skin improves,…

Best Foundation For Oily Acne Prone Skin – And Did I Mention Cheap Too?

I have tried a lot of methods to make my skin less shiny, from the home remedies like using apple cider as a toner to medical method like taking birth control pills. Those methods did make my skin look a bit less oily and shiny but the excess oil was still there and it always gave me a dirty feeling and I felt very unconfident sometimes. My skin was also very prone to acne and even though I tried a lot of over-the-counter products, my skin only improved for a short period of time and then those red and inflamed spots appeared again like mushrooms. That’s why I have been very careful with choosing makeup, especially foundations. I always buy those that claim to be “oil free” and normally opt for medium to full coverage. I did find some good foundations which do not break me out and provide a medium and pleasant coverage. As I am saving up for going back to university again, I cannot afford all the expensive and high-end brands like Estee Launder, Shiseido, Lancome so I only go for over-the-counter or medium priced products. Below are the list of the best foundations for oily acne prone skin to me:

Bourjois Happy Light Foundation: Don’t be fooled by the word “light” in the name, it’s actually a medium coverage foundation. This Bourjois foundation in fact covers all of my blemishes. I have mild acne with some tiny red spots on my forehead (the most oily place) and this foundation covers up everything! I don’t even have to use any concealer! Many people claim that this foundation is oily and can only be used on dry skin girls. I totally disagree. It feels nicely on my skin and is very easy to apply and even though my skin looks a bit shiny after around 5 hours, it is still great compared to many other high-end products. I cannot find it in any local store so normally I search and buy it off from eBay or from Strawberrynet.

Everyday Minerals: this is my second holy grail! This is a mineral powder foundation and I normally buy it through their official website. The price is a lot cheaper compared to Bare Minerals. I used before and the coverage is a lot better too. It has never broken me out and always gives me a velvet and smooth finished coverage. I look like I don’t wear any makeup at all using this foundation. However with this foundation, I still have to use some concealer on any bigger and noticeable spot.

Bourjois 10-hours sleep foundation: I love this foundation. I always use it when I don’t need to look flawless. This is more of a tinted moisturizer but still provides quite good coverage. It is very liquid like and easy to spread. However, I don’t recommend it if you live in a very hot and humid area as it can make you look a bit oily after some hours. To make up for that, it gives a very natural coverage and never breaks me out! I normally don’t use any moisturizer, except when the weather is really dry. I don’t use primers also as I had bad experience with it (most of them broke me out). I usually only wear these foundations alone, and settle with Rimmel Stay Matte Powder (I love this pressed powder so much, it doesn’t break me out, controls the oil extremely well and at , it’s a steal!).

So above are the best foundations for an oily acne prone skin gal like me. For anyone with mild to medium acne, the above foundations will cover almost everything. But if you need heavier coverage, maybe you need some more concealer or other kinds of foundation. However, I wouldn’t recommend heavy coverage foundations at all, because they clog your pores a lot more and even result in cystic acne. I had those before and I knew they were such a pain! Now I only have very mild acne after following a very unique method To find out what method I have been using to keep my skin clear and learn valuable makeup tips, please visit my FREE acne-prone skin makeup guide

How to Select the Proper Powder Based, Natural Makeup & Cosmetics for Acne Prone Skin – Apply Makeup Correctly to Flaunt a Smooth Skin

When it comes to dealing with acne prone skin or very oily skin types, there are certain things that should be taken care of, right from routine skin care to selecting cosmetic items. One should take time in analyzing the beauty products and the ingredients before directly applying them. Failure to do so will lead to outbreaks of unsightly acne and pimple. In short, correct self care tips are imperative to reduce acne or keep them under control. Let’s understand what to look for in what can be considered as the best foundation for acne prone skin.

For existing acne condition, you can use a good foundation as a part of your makeup regimen and hide the skin outbreaks. But, remember that frequent application clogs up the pores and worsens the condition. With so many brands in the market, selecting a good foundation is quite confusing. It becomes more tricky, if you are searching the best foundation for acne prone skin or sensitive skin. Besides being a matching shade for your complexion, it should coat lightly and have a balancing effect on the skin after application.

How to Select the Best Foundation for Acne Prone Skin?

Deciding a foundation for acne prone skin is very difficult. This is because, the sensitivity, texture and overall skin condition vary significantly from one person to another. Hence, a foundation that blends well with your skin may not have the same smoothening effect on your friend’s skin. Considering this, opting for the best foundation is like a trial method that should be be done with care. The thumb rule is to know your actual skin type and opt for a non-comedogenic formulation.

Some products cause increased dryness or add greasiness to the already oily skin. To prevent such cases, examine the active ingredients in the best foundation for covering acne. A natural, oil free, powder based (or water based), mineral type is ideal to cover acne, while reducing clogging of pores. Another criterion is easy removal of the foundation with a mild soap. In addition to the regular formulation, there are also foundation sticks that are excellent for quick fixing of skin blotches and acne spots.

Professional beauticians prescribe using a superior quality foundation for achieving a glamorous look. It is often suggested to spend more money on buying a good foundation, rather than expending on other cosmetic items. However, it is to be borne in mind that the best foundation recommended for people who are susceptible to acne need not be very pricey. You can opt for inexpensive foundation, provided that it meets your purpose of applying foundation, without exacerbating acne or causing unusual side effects.

At any point of time, do not go by the advertising hypes, which show smooth skin immediately after using the beauty product. Speaking about applying foundation correctly on acne prone skin, it is no different from the usual instructions. In most cases, the directions for using the product are mentioned in the leaflet. Hence, you can refer to the guidelines for getting best results. You can consider applying foundation with a brush if you are used to it. Avoid using harsh soaps or cleansers for removing foundation and also for regular face washing.

So, this was a brief information concerning the best foundation for acne prone skin and applying the same. It is not so easy to get the best brand that suits your skin. But, spending a little effort in examining the product reviews and consumer satisfaction data will help in getting the best acne skin care product. If at all you are confused about buying a good foundation, seeking advice from a beautician is a wise step, rather than using an unknown product with strong chemicals.
