Question by Skeeter Bug: My Face Just Won’t Clear Up. Help?
Okay, so I am fourteen, obviously in the teen hormonal period (lol). My face probably first started getting breakouts in maybe… the summer before seventh grade? (Age 12, going on 13 I think) I used to always have it plastered in my head that if I cleaned my face twice a day, then I wouldn’t get acne.
My older sisters always had acne too (both stopped by going on the pill, because of ‘too heavy flowage’ haha, it runs in the family so I bet I will too later in HS) but until then I need some help. My sister that’s 2 years older than me is lucky because she doesn’t wash her face consistently and doesn’t have very much acne AT ALL.
Products I’ve used: Purpose, Velocity, Purpose (again), Biore Ice Cleanser, Dermalogica Clean Start. I have oily skin, but clean my face twice a day, if I go to a friends house, I bring pads. I haven’t forgotten to wash it in like… a year maybe? But why do I still have it! Any tips or tricks?
PS: I have those bumps on my forehead, bumps around the bridge of my nose, clear on the cheeks, and acne around my mouth. I know that basically spells out Combo skin, but I’ve been using masks and everything and I’m sick of it! I think some might be about my pillow case, (side sleeper) but I started sleeping on my back. I drink water (I track my meals and water on MyNetDiary) and am in shape. I’m vegetarian, but that has nothing to do with it because it hasn’t changed my face since I did it. Also, my light foundation isn’t the problem, because I went with out it and nothing changed.
Oh, and none of that common advice “Drink water, clean twice a day, Don’t touch your face, no makeup” Because I do 1,2,3, and am aware of 4, but it’s not the problem. I NEVER SLEEP IN MY MAKEUP! And don’t wear it except for school and outtings.
k. thanks,
bye

No one I asked recommended proactive nor liked it, especially my sisters. I’m only allergic to dust mites, I didn’t recently get 60 needles in my back for nothing.

Um.. Well it could be the makeup or something because you could be allergic to something?
Also try different cleansers see which on works best for you! Neutragena, clean and clear, proactive are good. I like to use St.Ives Which is awesome! You should only be using it once a day though… Are you washing correctly? You should try leaving the cleanser on for a while like a few mins before rinsing.
I suggest you trying this one! Its fantastic! And super cheap!

I know it’s expensive, but Mary Kay really works. I went through an acne phase in the Winter, and tried Proactiv, but it didn’t work. Then my coworker started selling Mary Kay, and I bought the Timewise kit, and it cleared me up within just a couple of days. If you do decide on Mary Kay, it sounds like you would have the Combination to Oily skin because you’re breaking out.
Try the Clinique 3 step skin care system. I had the same problem as you, started using that, and now my skin is bright and clear
There’s 4 different types (Dry, dry/Combination, Oil/combination, oily) so im guessing you’d be #3 (oily/combination) but try going to a Sephora or a Clinique counter to try it out! it really does work
also, clean&clear 3 in 1 exfoliating cleanser works wonders. It’s just a cheaper option
Hi – I used to have pretty bad skin when I was younger…. I had tried everything! Every type of product…. drinking water, constantly washing my face, etc…. I had even tried the pill and that didn’t work for me! One of my doctors decided to put me on Roaccutane for about 6 months! It was the best thing for me, as it got rid of the acne once and for all…. Haven’t had a pimple in nearly 10 years! These days I use Dermalogica and love it… I buy it online from: http://mycheapdermalogica.com/
